Theme and What is it?
Men in bright orange utility vests and safety helmets stalk slowly through towering tropical trees, armed and attentive. The Jungle is silent, apart from the rustling leaves and twittering birds.
One man pauses, and motions to his comrades. He’s found something. He gestures toward the dense foliage directly in front of him, and lifts his rifle — finger poised on the trigger.
Suddenly, a blur of scales and teeth erupts from the undergrowth next to the man, taking him completely by surprise. His shot misfires, missing his original target by a mile. He falls backwards into the tall grass, the massive reptile ripping at his chest.
His shots and screams draw the attention of his associates who rush to his aid, but as they approach, more of the ferocious reptiles emerge from the vegetation. Suddenly, the jungle is alive with the sounds of gunfire and screams — both human and inhuman. It’s an epic fight to the death — who will come out on top?
Unmatched : Battle of Legends : Jurassic Park is the newest expansion for Unmatched: Battle of Legends (Volume 1). This expansion puts players in control of some of the most fantastic characters from Jurassic Park: Robert Muldoon and the Velociraptors.
What does it add?
So you wanna play with — play with dinosaurs? Lucky for you then, because Restoration Games has found a way! This Jurassic Park expansion adds 2 new playable heroes — Robert Muldoon, and the Velociraptors.
You probably recognize Robert Muldoon as the shorts-sporting, rifle-toting game hunter from the original Jurassic Park series. Muldoon leads a team of InGen workers across Isla Nublar, setting traps and keeping a sharp eye out for those clever raptors.
Speaking of raptors, this expansion actually comes with 3 raptors. The raptors move and hunt together as a team. Each raptor has its own hit-point dial, and every raptor must be eliminated in order for their opponent to win. Their teamwork and coordinated attacks make them an especially dangerous enemy.
The Jurassic Park expansion also comes with a new 2-player board, featuring the raptor enclosure and surrounding jungle. The map also introduces “one way” spaces, which have an arrow pointing to them from the adjacent spaces. These spaces can be moved into in the direction of the arrow, but they can’t be moved back in the same direction. This makes the map a little trickier to navigate!
What does it fix/ break?
I was worried that the 3 raptors would be unbalanced when pitted against any other character — I mean, there’s 3 massive, toothed-and-clawed reptiles against tender-fleshed humans. It seemed unfair.
But after playing with them several times, against various different characters, we discovered that they’re surprisingly well balanced! In our first play, they decimated Robert Muldoon, but in our second and third plays the raptors were defeated by Bruce Lee and Medusa respectively. Muldoon also managed to vanquish Alice, so we know that he’s not just a khaki-wearing loser — he’s capable of holding his own in a fight.
In short, nothing is fixed or broken — just more awesome.
Do I want this?
Do you like Dinosaurs? Do you like Jurassic Park? Do you want to feel like a clever girl? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, then you have your answer.
Not only are the new characters in this expansion super cool, but they’re extra challenging to play as well. The raptor player has to coordinate all 3 raptors well in order to pull off powerful attacks. Muldoon has to manage himself, as well as his 3 InGen workers and place his traps strategically to benefit him the most.
The characters are more in-depth, and require a little more strategy than the characters from the base game or the previous expansions. So if you’re looking for a little more of a challenge, this expansion might be just what you’re looking for.
Also, if you want to sic 3 velociraptors on Medusa, King Arthur, Sinbad, or Alice, this is exactly what you’re looking for.
Do I need this?
You definitely don’t need this expansion, since the base game works well enough on it’s own, but if you’re looking for more variety, more characters, more combinations, etc. then this expansion would be a perfect addition to your existing Unmatched collection.
Also, if you don’t yet have an Unmatched collection, but you’re interested in the game, you might like to know that the expansions are fully playable without the base game. So if you’re intrigued, but not quite ready to jump in, you could totally test the waters by trying out either of the expansions first.
Unmatched: Battle of Legends: Jurassic Park, is an awesome expansion that is sure to take your Unmatched experience to the next level. Robert Muldoon and the Raptors are fantastic characters that add more diversity and complexity to the epic base game, and the new 2 player map brings opportunities for new strategies and challenges as well.
If you love Unmatched, you’ll love this expansion.
