Theme and What is it?
The ground beneath your feet rumbles and shakes beneath your leather-clad feet. You draw your bow, spinning around just in time to see a gargantuan, hairy beast barreling toward you, snapping large branches and small trees in it’s wake. You notch an arrow, but the beast is too fast. It rams into you, and the force of its massive body sends you flying through the air. You land on your back with a heavy crash — no time to recover. You jump to your feet, re-notching your arrow, but the beast has disappeared. Even the trees, which moments ago had been ripped up by their roots, seem to be untouched. No matter — you found him once, you’ll find him again. With no time to waste, you dash further into the forest.
Unmatched: Battle of Legends: Robin Hood vs. Bigfoot is an expansion for Unmatched: Battle of Legends (Volume 1) that adds new characters, and new maps that can be used with the base game, or separately by itself as a smaller version of the base game.
What does it add?
You might be shocked when you find out that the Robin Hood vs Bigfoot expansion adds Robin Hood, and also Bigfoot. These new characters come with their own unique decks, abilities, and sidekicks, and can be thrown into battle with any of the characters from the base game.
Robin Hood leads his band of Merry Men Outlaws in combat against his opponents. Robin Hood is a ranged character, making him a formidable foe from afar. His Merry Men are melee characters and work hard to protect Robin Hood and attack his enemies.
Bigfoot is a hoax, right? Still, this character can be spotted roaming the map with his Jackalope friend. Bigfoot is astonishingly mobile and gains benefits from being alone in his zone, but his action cards let him deal some serious damage to his opponents before disappearing back into the trees. The Jackalope is also surprisingly strong for such a small beast!
This expansion comes with a new double-sided board, with maps specifically for 2 players. We love these maps because they tighten up the combat area, which heightens the in-game tension and helps things move along even faster.
What does it fix/ break?
This expansion doesn’t break anything; it simply adds more options which add variety to the base game. The characters are well balanced against each other and against the characters included in the base game.
One thing that it might “fix” is that in the base game, a two-player game can sometimes run a little longer than it should because the map is so big. There’s plenty of room for players to retreat, hide, and lick their wounds for a bit before jumping back into the fray. The two-player maps in this expansion fix that – they help the two-player games move along quickly and fiercely as players mercilessly stalk, hunt, and kill their opponent. All in good fun, of course.
Do I want this?
If you’re a fan of the base game, then yes, you definitely want this. I mean… it’s Bigfoot. Who wouldn’t want to lead the Sasquatchian beast in a thrilling fight to the death?
And Robin Hood, the green-garbed people’s hero, Legend of the Sherwood Forest — he’s tricky, slippery, and brings a new kind of strategy to an already epic game.
So yes, if you like the base game, I think you’ll find it difficult to stay away from this stupendous expansion.
Do I need this?
This expansion doesn’t fix anything that was broken in the base game (nothing was broken), so you don’t need the expansion. However, I do think your Unmatched experience would be greatly improved with the addition of these new characters. Everything is better with Bigfoot!
Also, the expansion is playable by itself, independent of the base game. So if you haven’t played Unmatched, but you’re curious, you could just get this expansion and play it a few times to see if you like it before investing more in the base game. Because, let’s be honest, if you like the base game there’s like, a 99% chance you’re going to pick up the expansion anyway.
Unmatched: Battle of Legends: Robin Hood vs Bigfoot (gasp, inhale, gasp) is an exciting expansion that adds two wonderful new characters and a couple new maps to the already incredible base game. Robin Hood and Bigfoot are unique, well balanced characters that and add their own fresh flavors to the original mix of heroes. If you liked the base game, you can’t go wrong with this expansion!
